New Hampshire House Democrats elected State Representative Alexis Simpson as the new leader of their caucus, moving up from her role as Deputy Leader under State Rep. Matt Wilhelm, who stepped down from his role last week.
“I am deeply honored to be elected as the next leader of the House Democratic Caucus. I want to extend my gratitude to every member of our Caucus for their trust and support. I also want to give my thanks to Representative Matt Wilhelm for his steadfast leadership, dedication, and commitment to our Caucus over the last two years,” said House Democratic Leader Alexis Simpson.
“House Democrats are ready to hold the line against extreme Republican legislation and fight for policies that uplift hardworking families and propel our state forward. Together, we will work to serve every Granite Stater and build the foundation for future success within our caucus.”

Simpson fended off challenges from two other State Representatives in her caucus for the role of leader — from State Representatives Alicia Gregg and Jonah Wheeler. Simpson’s win was bolstered by an endorsement by outgoing leader Wilhelm, a popular figure in New Hampshire Democratic political circles, who is now returning to chair the House Democrats Campaign arm, the House Democrats Victory Campaign Committee (DVCC).
Simpson represents Rockingham District 33, which includes Exeter, Newfields, Newmarket, and Stratham. First elected in 2014, Simpson was elected Deputy Democratic Leader in the House, serving alongside Leader Wilhelm.
