Move over, New York and Chicago—there’s a new pizza capital in town.
A new analysis by Maine Lobster Now has crowned New Hampshire as the best state for pizza lovers in the US.
How’d the Granite State win the title? The ranking looked at the number of pizzerias per capita, how often people are searching for pizza online, and average pizza prices. Turns out, New Hampshire leads the nation with 72.73 pizzerias per 100,000 residents, over 22,000 pizza-related searches, and an average pizza cost of $15.74—one of the most affordable in the country.
“New Hampshire is the ultimate destination for pizza lovers,” Maine Lobster Now said in a statement to Travel and Leisure. “With 1,022 pizzerias, that works out to an impressive 72.73 pizzerias per 100,000 residents—the highest in the dataset. Add in the high pizza enthusiasm of 22,512 pizza-related searches per 100,000 residents and a wallet-friendly average pizza price of $15.74, and you’ve got a state that ensures pizza enthusiasts have ample options at relatively affordable prices.”
Iconic pizza states like New York didn’t even crack the top 25—ranking 29th overall due to high prices and lower shop density.
Behind New Hampshire, Ohio, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kansas, West Virginia, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Indiana made the top 10 list.
