Four companies in New Hampshire have earned spots on Forbes’ list of the best midsize employers—and three of them have been around since at least the 1800s.
The annual ranking, compiled in partnership with research firm Statista, surveyed more than 217,000 employees working at US companies with over 1,000 employees. Survey respondents, who remained anonymous, rated their employers based on factors such as salary, work environment, training programs, and opportunities for advancement. The New Hampshire-based businesses that made the list were:
- 68th: Connection (formerly PC Connection) – Based in Merrimack, this IT software and services company was founded in 1982.
- 150th: Dartmouth College – Established in 1769, this Ivy League institution in Hanover is one of the oldest employers on the list.
- 211th: Concord Hospital – Founded in 1891, this healthcare and social services provider serves the state’s capital region.
- 349th: Albany International – Headquartered in Rochester, this engineering and manufacturing firm was established in 1895.
This marks the 10th anniversary of Forbes’ best employer rankings.
The rankings were determined by tallying responses from the latest survey alongside data from the past three years. Companies with 1,000 to 5,000 employees were categorized as midsize, while those with more than 5,000 were considered large. In total, 1,199 organizations were recognized across the two lists, with 498 making the midsize employers ranking and 701 listed among the best large employers of 2025.
No businesses from New Hampshire made the list of best large employers.
